Plan in Sudan
Sudan is the largest country in Africa, about a third the size of the whole of North America. Most of the population lives near the Nile River or one of its branches. Agriculture, the largest economic sector in the country, provides the primary source of livelihood for about 80% of the population.
Since 1989 Plan has worked in Sudan and is active in the Eastern border state Kassala, in the country of the central part of Sudan in the Ed Duwein province and along the West bank of the white Nile in Guli.
A few examples of last year's achievements:
- A total of 46,000 families in 118 communities participated in health awareness sessions to learn how to reduce the risk of diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS
- Nearly 11,000 sponsored children benefited from four new health facilities and 46 renovated clinic
